HOT-SHOT striker Danny Glover says he wants to be a Worcester City player next season.
The 21-year-old was City’s leading marksman last term with 20 goals but has yet to agree a new deal at St George’s Lane.
He has been contacted by other clubs but says staying with Carl Heeley’s team is his preferred option and has dismissed rumours suggesting he had signed for Blue Square Bet Premier outfit Tamworth.
Negotiations have slowed because the striker, who lives in Stoke, has only just returned from a holiday.
“I am looking to stay, I think Worcester are a good team and we have got to progress next year. We are still negotiating,” Glover said.
“I have said all along that I want to stay but, with Simon Richman going and me having to travel from Stoke on my own, it was another thing we have had to discuss.
“Simon lived that bit further away and couldn’t really turn Altrincham down.
“One or two clubs rang but if I can sort something out with Worcester first I would like to stay. They have signed a few players so we will have to wait and see.”
As for rumours suggesting he had joined Tamworth, Glover added: “There is nothing in it whatsoever.”
Manager Heeley is keen to keep hold of a player who made a huge impact in his first season in non-league football following his release from League Two side Port Vale.
Glover’s scoring record, which included a hat-trick against Hyde in February — the first by a City player since 2006 — plus a willingness to do his fair share of defending, made him a favourite with fans.
Having already recruited Leamington striker Luke Corbett and former Gloucester forward Mike Symons in recent days, retaining the striker would give City a powerful looking attack.
Talks with Glover were opened towards the end of last season and the offer remains on the table, although the City boss has made it clear it won’t be there indefinitely as he seeks to assemble a squad.
