MANAGER Carl Heeley is hoping to make forward Danny Glover his next summer signing at Worcester City.
Glover has been involved in City’s three pre-season friendlies to date, against Stratford, Cirencester and Malvern, and Heeley is in talks with the player over a deal.
The 20-year-old has experience in the Football League having been on the books at Port Vale as well as having a loan spell at Rochdale.
If Glover puts pen to paper, he will become the 13th player to join the City squad following last week’s capture of goalkeeper Tim Sandercombe. Young striker Dan Polan and midfielder Kyonn Evans have also impressed the manager during pre-season and could win deals at St George’s Lane, but centre-half Loz Heard has been released.
However, Heeley is unlikely to get another chance to run the rule over his squad until Saturday’s visit of AFC Liverpool following the cancellation of tonight’s home warm-up match against newly-promoted Blue Square Bet Premier side Bath City.
The West Country side pulled out of the fixture last Saturday, citing a lack of players due to injuries sustained against Gloucester City on Friday.
It is the second time City have been let down at the 11th hour this summer after League Two neighbours Cheltenham Town, who were supposed to visit the Lane last weekend, cried off in favour of playing Swansea City via an e-mail to the club’s website.
Heeley, who has not ruled out arranging a match for tomorrow night, said: “I am not at all happy with Bath, I think it’s very unprofessional what they have done.
“While I sympathise with them getting injuries, you commit to these games in pre-season and you have enough players to cover the games. There are plenty of players around.
“I am also very unhappy with Cheltenham but I suppose the only consolation is Bath had the decency to ring me up and tell me.”
