SATURDAY fishing on the banks of the iver Severn with a glass of Rioja is taking a back seat for Paul West as he ponders life at Evesham United.

The 42-year-old, in charge of the Robins for five years until last November, is back in a caretaker capacity after the resignation of Matt Clarke and assistant Rob Elmes.

He oversaw last weekend’s 3-0 Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South and West victory over Yate and will again be at the helm for tomorrow’s visit of Bridgwater (3pm).

Chairman Jim Cockerton is considering applicants for the job and West, who also brought brother Leon back to the club as his number two, has not ruled himself out.

“I am not saying I don’t want the job, we will just see how it goes,” West said. “My commitments outside of football have to be to my family but we will take it on a week-to-week basis.

“We (Leon and I) are more than happy to put our fishing and a bit of Rioja by the river Severn on hold! At this stage, the role is to make sure the chairman and board feel they don’t need to rush into anything.”

Evesham are without striker Roland Agbor, who starts a four-game ban, and keeper Dean Coleman (groin) is struggling. Midfielder Tom Warmer and striker Liam Hughes have left the club.
