WILLIAM McDermott's 10-year-old brother Brian disappeared from a playground in the Ormeau Park in Northern Ireland on Sunday, September 2 1973.
His mutilated torso and arm were recovered from the river Lagan almost a week later, near the Belfast Boat Club.
Brian left his home in Well Street in the lower Woodstock Road area of east Belfast at about 12.30pm and failed to return for his Sunday dinner. He was last seen playing alone in the playground between 1pm and 3pm that afternoon.
In September 2003 Detective Chief inspector George Hamilton, Strandtown District Command Unit said: "No one has ever been brought to justice for the murder of this little boy and I realise that it is difficult to jog memories about an incident that happened 30 years ago.
"However this murder case has never been closed and I am hopeful that someone may be able to provide some snippet of information, which may open a new line of enquiry, or add a new dimension to information already available.
"It is also possible that someone who did not volunteer information at the time is prepared to contact Crimestoppers anonymously."
Anyone who thinks they may be able to help the police should contact detectives at Strandtown on 028 9065 0222 or ring the Crimestoppers number 0800 555111.
