Worcester News: Sally John Ms Sally John - DIVISIONAL COMMENDATION

Off-duty police sergeant Carl Jones managed - with the valuable help of a shop-worker - to revive a man who suffered severe facial injuries when he fell in St Swithin’s Street, Worcester on 23rd June.

He used First-Aid training to help the 55-years-old with Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), although the injuries were so severe that ‘mouth-to-mouth’ was impracticable.

Quickly joined and aided by Sally John - from a nearby shop - Sgt. Jones continued to help ambulance staff when they arrived, as well as travelling with the injured man in the ambulance to the Accident & Emergency Department at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

Medical staff said that had it not been for Carl's and Sally's intervention, the man was unlikely to have reached hospital alive. Sadly, however, he died a few days later.

Ch Supt Jane Horwood, head of policing in South Worcestershire, said: “The prompt and gallant actions of Carl and Sally undoubtedly preserved life long enough to enable family members to have the opportunity to spend some time with their loved-one before he died, providing them with some comfort in these tragic circumstances.”

Sgt. Jones and Mrs John were commended for their prompt and gallant actions in administering first aid and CPR to a man who had fallen in the street.
