CHILDREN in Tenbury have made sure that their town’s most famous festive export gets plenty of publicity by producing their own newspaper all about it.

Mistletoe season has begun in Tenbury with buyers arriving from all over the country to attend the town’s auctions.

To celebrate the fact, pupils from Tenbury High School produced the Mistletoe Messenger which is now on sale for 50p around the town.

The pupils secured £500 funding for the project from Worcestershire County Council via local councillor Ken Pollock and intend to fund future editions with sponsorship from local businesses. Project creator Caroline Palethorpe praised the work of the children, who are in years seven and eight.

“They only had a short space of time, but what they have managed is fabulous,” she said.

The pupils wrote stories and poems, researched where Tenbury’s mistletoe travelled across the country and spent time with elderly people in day centres to find out who they kissed under the mistletoe.

Councillor Pollock still has funds available to spend on other worthwhile local projects so if you have an idea write to him at KPollock2@worcestershire.gov.uk l A variety of events are being planned to celebrate Tenbury’s mistletoe season.
