WORCESTER is poised to benefit from the renowned Hilton Hotel chain opening a branch in the city.
Development firm MP (Worcester) Ltd, which is responsible for building on the five-acre site adjoining Worcester Warriors Rugby Club’s Sixways complex, are in advanced talks with the hotel company.
The intention is for a Hampton by Hilton hotel, which the chain describes as “an economy hotel with an upper mid-scale finish”, to be constructed next to the proposed David Lloyd Leisure club.
Details of the hotel were revealed when an artist’s impression was released of the proposed leisure club.
Should all parties reach agreement, the development at Sixways would become the first Hilton premises in the city and would go some way to addressing Worcester’s lack of hotel beds.
Warriors managing director Charlie Little said: “It is our intention to try and bring a hotel to the Sixways site that will enhance our ambitions of becoming a destination hub and will support our conference and non-rugby business.
The hotel will also supplement the David Lloyd offering.
The current state of play is that the developer, MP (Worcester) Ltd, has been in negotiations with David Lloyd and is in negotiations with several hotel brands. One of those brands is Hilton.
“Hilton operates a series of brands, which include the four or five-star Hilton Hotels, the Hampton by Hilton range as well as Garden Inn and Double Tree hotels.
“Hilton are a supporter of English rugby, therefore it made sense to use our rugby contacts to see if it was a possibility, so that is our preferred route.
“The Hilton group also has a magnificent brand reputation, so we would like to have a Hampton by Hilton hotel at Sixways.”
Describing the Hampton range of hotels on its website, Hilton says: “At Hampton, we use a bundle value approach by offering quality amenities that guests truly want and need.
“Some of the Hampton by Hilton amenities that are offered and are included in the price of the room are an expanded complementary cooked breakfast, high-speed internet access and a morning newspaper.”
At the time of going to press, nobody from MP (Worcester) Ltd was available for comment.
