A DOZY driver crashed into a car park wall before driving off again – leaving £1,000 damage in his wake.
Worcester City Council CCTV captured the moment a wayward motorist pulled into the cattle market car park using the Croft Road entrance and went straight into the wall next to a disabled bay just after 9am on Thursday.
The driver then reversed the car out of the smashed wall and drove back out of the car park.
It is not known which way they went along Croft Road.
The cost of the damage – which is covered by insurance – has been put at about £1,000, but the taxpayer will still end up forking out in man hours.
A six-metre stretch of the car park’s low wall has been wrecked and the iron railings along the top of the brickwork have been buckled.
A city council spokeswoman said: “The camera showed a car coming off the roundabout into the car park and going straight into the disabled bay – only it didn’t stop.
“It came in the car park at some speed and crashed straight into the wall, then reversed out and left immediately.”
She said flying debris from the wall could have hurt passing pedestrians if they had been walking along the path the other side of the wall at the time, but fortunately nobody was about.
The crash happened just after the rush hour and it is thought some drivers passing along Croft Road may have noticed the accident.
There were a few cars parked at the time, and it is hoped someone may have witnessed the shunt and seen the car driving off.
The council spokeswoman said: “It’s a light-coloured saloon car and will have had front-end damage.
“We will be interested to hear from any garages who have had to repair a vehicle fitting that description.”
Anyone with information should call the council on 01905 722233.
