CLOTHING store TK Maxx will create 50 new jobs when it opens in Worcester this summer.
Earlier this year your Worcester News exclusively revealed that the retailer, which sells designer and high street brands at discounted prices, is set to open on the former Woolworths site.
There has been a gaping hole in the High Street since Woolworths shut five months ago. Yesterday TK Maxx revealed that its new Worcester branch, boasting 20,000 sq ft of clothing, homeware and accessories, will bring 50 jobs to the region.
Lucy McGonigle, spokesman for the national chain, said: “We are delighted to be opening in Worcester and this new store makes us feel particularly proud.
“It’s TK Maxx like you’ve never seen it before although don’t expect to find waterfalls or marble floors – we’d rather pass on the savings to our customers.”
TK Maxx currently has stores in Kidderminster and Redditch. The retailer has not yet given an exact date for the opening its Worcester store, but tourism bosses understand it will be in August.
Adrian Fields, of tourism and city centre management company VisitWorcester, welcomed the news.
He said: “It’s another big name store on the High Street, but it’s not the only new store opening up.”
Mobile phone shop Get Connected is now trading in Pump Street, betting company Betfred has opened a branch in the Cross, Clarks in the High Street is currently being refitted, and value fashion chain Peacocks is set to open its Worcester store in the former Dunelm Mill premises in CrownGate this month.
