A COUPLE who celebrated their silver wedding have helped to raise money towards the cost of comfortable seats for others about to married in St John the Baptist Church, Claines.

Chris and Judy Hooper are members of Claines Amateur Theatrical Society (CATS) which staged a concert in the church, featuring rock and pop classic songs, all reflecting the theme of friendship.

CATS, which is closely allied to the church, decided to donate £175 of the money raised towards the cost of upholstered seating for fut-ure brides and grooms.

Mrs Hooper said: ‘‘It will give couples somewhere more comfortable to sit in the ves-try while discussing wedding arrangements with the vicar and when signing the register after the ceremony itself.’’ The concert involved a choir of members singing numbers ranging from Don’t Stop Believing and Got To Get You Into My Life, to Bridge Over Troubled Water and Somebody to Love. The show was directed by Mrs Hooper, with Gail and Billi Kainey as the musical directors. The choreography was arranged by Mrs Hooper and Abbi Jakeman.
