A TEENAGER has died after a crash between a lorry and a car.
The smash happened at 11.30pm yesterday on the A438 Leadon Way junction with Martins Way in Ledbury.
The 19-year-old man was driving a Ford Fiesta when it collided with a Volvo HGV articulated lorry.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “The lorry driver, a 63-year-old man, had lower back pain.
“Crews treated him at the side of the road and immobilised him with the use of a spinal board and neck collar.
“He was then taken by ambulance to Hereford County Hospital for further assessment and treatment.
“However, despite the best efforts of crews, nothing could be done to save the driver of the car and he was confirmed dead at the scene.”
Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service also attended the scene and used their thermal imaging cameras to ensure no one had been thrown from the crash wreckage.
The road was closed for several hours as police collision investigators examined the scene to piece together how the crash occurred.
A post-mortem will be carried out and an inquest is expected to be opened and adjourned later in the week.
Police investigating the incident are anxious to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have seen the Ford Fiesta in Martins Way or the Volvo lorry on the A438 before the crash happened.
Anyone with information should contact PC Darren Collett of the Roads Policing Team at Hereford Police Station on 0300 333 3000 as soon as possible.
