A COUNTRYSIDE road near Worcester was closed after a car caught fire last night (October 7). 

Poplar Road in Wichenford was closed in both directions whilst firefighters battled a blaze which fully engulfed a car. 

The incident took around two hours and police also attended. 

A spokesperson for Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said: "One crew from Worcester Fire Station was called at 7.52pm on October 7 to a small vehicle on fire in Poplar Road, Wichenford.

"One vehicle was fully involved in fire and extinguished by one firefighter wearing breathing apparatus and using a hosereel jet.

"A thermal imaging camera was used to check for hot spots.

"Poplar Road was closed in both directions.

"There were no casualties."

Police have been approached for comment.
