The owners of a former grill house site have suggested that renovations on the venue could be back on track by the end of 2024.

The former Worcester Steak 'n' Grill House, in the Cornmarket, was purchased by Davenports early in 2022 and the site has laid dormant for over two years.

However, the Midlands-based brewing and pub company has now said, despite other projects delaying work on the site, it believes renovations could begin by the end of the year.

Katie McPhilimey, Davenports associate marketing director, said: "Worcester is a very important site for us.

"Our renovation has been delayed slightly due to the acquisition of an operating site which requires considerable work to bring it online with our portfolio and values.

"However, as soon as that large project and another smaller venue have been completed, work on Worcester will commence.

"We are taking this time to really consider our offering for Worcester. The hospitality industry is a moving feast and we want to ensure that our Worcester venue is on point.

"It is a very special place, it has a great vibe and a boutique feel and our team are very excited to start work."

Worcester News reported in July 2022 that Davenports had started renovating the site until the brewery's other projects began to delay the plans.

The former Worcester Steak 'n' Grill House first opened in August 2020, and the venue had been operated under different guises previously such as Francesca's, the Maltser, Bar 12 and the Slug and Lettuce.

Despite the grill house undergoing a refurbishment costing approximately £100,000 before opening in 2021, the venue was listed for sale by March 2, 2022.

The former restaurant's owner, Nick Smith, said at the time that “the business will continue and be unaffected”, however Davenports soon completed its takeover.

Speaking in June 2022, Davenports finance director Ian Robinson said: "A major overhaul of the venue is required to bring it in line with Davenports branding and styling, and to ensure it pleases the valued cliental we hope to attract."
