PUPILS from a city school will head to a national finals after being crowned regional winners of an inaugural competition.

RGS The Grange’s Lego League team CyberBytes comprised of passionate pupil digital leaders who perfected their coding projects and delivered presentations to the judges with enthusiasm and confidence.

Lego League typically is a series of robotics competitions for young people, organised by FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology).

It involves designing, building and programming robots using Lego Mindstorms kits.

Participants learn engineering, coding, problem-solving and teamwork skills while having fun with robotics challenges.

In the day-long competition’s first year, the CyberBytes team exceeded expectations in the robotic rounds, demonstrating resilience and determination.

The children’s passion for EdTech and effective teamwork shone before the judges, earning them higher scores than ever before.

The delighted CyberBytes team members won the overall regional championship, surpassing their wildest dreams.

Matt Warne, head of computing and digital learning at RGS The Grange, said: “I am so proud of how the team grew in confidence and self-belief throughout this competition.

“The pupils’ progress and resilience throughout the day was outstanding. To see them crowned as regional champions was a very proud moment.”

The journey continues for the CyberBytes as the children prepare to represent the school at the national finals in Harrogate.

With their team spirit and determination, they are targeting further success on the national stage.

Lego League is one of over 120 clubs offered at RGS The Grange.
