A WORCESTER cafe famous for its huge full English breakfast challenge has been handed a new four-out-of-five food hygiene rating.

The Full English Cafe, a restaurant, cafe or canteen at 48 - 50 Astwood Road, Worcester was given the score after assessment on Thursday, September 7, the Food Standards Agency's website shows.

According to the inspection, the hygienic handling of food including preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage was rated as 'good'.

The cleanliness and condition of facilities and building (including having appropriate layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control) to enable good food hygiene was also rated as 'good'.

The system or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat, evidence that staff know about food safety, and the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future, was rated as 'generally satisfactory'.

The restaurant is famous for its  Widow Maker challenge, which consists of eight sausages, eight bacon rashers, six slices of toast, two servings of mushrooms, beans, six eggs, three black pudding slices, three hash browns, two fried bread and a pot of coffee to be eaten in just 35 minutes.

Out of Worcester's 177 restaurants, cafes and canteens with ratings, 139 (79 per cent) have ratings of five and none have zero ratings.
