TRAFFIC concerns in Malvern should be officially reviewed by the highways authorities, according to one of this year’s election candidates.

Liam Thompson, Conservative candidate for Trinity Ward, has called for a review into traffic and parking in Newtown Road after a number of concerns were raised by residents.

He has been joined by the town’s MP, West Worcestershire’s Harriett Baldwin in calling for Worcestershire County Council to deal with the concerns.

The pair visited residents of Newtown Road to discuss issued including speeding vehicles, double parking and “confusing” road signs.

Concerns were also raised about emergency vehicle access, with the road being described as “an accident waiting to happen”.

Liam Thompson said: “It’s clear that Newtown Road has become busier in recent years, in response to new housing developments and growing businesses.

“The council needs to be proactive here, listen to residents’ concerns and undertake a full traffic assessment so that the risk of accident can be understood and mitigated.

“Traffic is a growing issue in Newtown Road and if elected on May 6th, I look forward to working with the council to alleviate the situation.”

Mrs Baldwin added: “I was concerned to hear from local residents that the traffic and parking situation on Newtown Road is getting worse.

“The County Council needs to have a look at possible solutions like double yellow lines and better signage to make the road safer for everyone.”

This is not the first time concerns have been raised about traffic in Malvern.

Last year, concerns were raised over the state of Mayfield Road, a link between Sherrards Green and Townsend Way, which sees thousands of cars every day.

Following that year's flooding, many parts of the road surface were covered in holes and there was a large amount of mud and water still on the surface.

For changes in how a road is used, district councillors can speak to their county councillor to help them with an application to Worcestershire Count Council, the highways authority.

Earlier this year, concerns were raised about speeding in two Malvern roads: Church Street and Barnards Green Road.
