THE head of Kempsey Primary School has thanked all those who stepped in to help after a pupil was taken ill while walking to school.
Bryony Baynes said: "One of our Key Stage 2 pupils suffered a medical emergency on our Walk to School activity this morning and fell and hit his head. No cars were involved in this accident.
"The situation was dealt with quickly and safely by the members of staff on duty, who called an ambulance.
"Nursery staff from across the road, Little Geniuses, also came out to help, offering blankets and diverting traffic, and I am very grateful to them for their support.
" One of our parents, a nurse, also stopped to help and we are very grateful also to her. The boy was taken to hospital and his parents were informed and went with him.
"We take the well-being of all our pupils incredibly seriously, and I am proud of staff who acted so quickly and professionally to ensure the safety of everyone involved.
"I am also proud of all our pupils for acting with such maturity while the situation was ongoing. The young boy involved is expected to make a good recovery.”
The ambulance service confirmed that a crew had been called to the village at 8.26am. The crew treated the boy on the scene, before taking him to Worcestershire Royal Hospital.
