POLICE were called after bus drivers were unable to reach certain stops in the city because of ‘inconsiderate parking’.
Officers were called to Canterbury Road, in Worcester, on Monday, to ask drivers to move their vehicles.
First Group said the parked cars blocked its buses from driving down the street for around 45 minutes.
A 78-year-old woman, of Lincoln Green, Worcester, said she waited at the bus stop, at the junction between Canterbury Road and Liverpool Road, for 30 minutes.
She said: “The controller at Crowngate rang the police and got the [parked] vans removed.
“I was told by the controller that they were having trouble with vans on Canterbury Road. They were parked on both sides.
“People park on the road because of the houses. It’s always been bad.”
The resident, who didn't want to be named, arrived at the stop at 3pm to wait for a bus.
She took the 3.30pm bus to visit a relative who lives opposite the city’s Worcestershire Royal Hospital.
She added staff at the hospital park their cars at the top end of the road, exacerbating traffic problems.
Sarah East, head of operations at First Worcester, said: “On Monday afternoon our drivers could not access Canterbury Road for around 45 minutes due to vehicles blocking the junction from Newtown Road.
“We communicated the situation with customers at Crowngate bus station and reported the matter to the police who got the vehicles moved.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused through this brief period of disruption, but the situation was out of our control with us not being able to access Canterbury Road.
“I would like to thank the police for their assistance in dealing with the matter.”
PCSO Dawn Wallace, of Battenhall and Nunnery Safer Neighbourhood Team, added: “The local policing team did attend Canterbury Road on Monday, April 23, due to a report from First that their buses could not get through.
“Police attended and observed inconsiderate parking but this was rectified and drivers given words of advice.”
The Worcester News reported in 2015 that buses were stuck on the road because of double parking, leaving a terminally ill woman trapped in a traffic jam.
