POLICE are investigating the sexual assault of a woman in Worcester.
Officers said the woman was attacked at 5.30am this morning (Tuesday, December 12) whilst walking under the viaduct by the entrance of the Cattlemarket Car Park at the junction of Castle Street and Croft Road.
The woman, who is in her 50s, was approached from behind by a man who put his hands over her face and touched her inappropriately over her clothing.
The victim then ran off.
The offender is described wearing dark clothing.
Investigating officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or with any information to come forward.
Detective Inspector John Cashion from Worcester CID said: "This has, understandably, been a very traumatic ordeal for the victim and specialist officers are currently supporting her.
"A thorough investigation has now been launched to identify the person responsible, and officers have been conducting reassurance patrols in the area.
"I would ask anyone who witnessed the incident, saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area around the time of the incident or may have any information that could assist with enquiries to please come forward."
Anyone with information is urged to call West Mercia Police on 101, quoting incident number 63s of December 12.
