THE heavens opened yesterday – and we can expect more of the same today with storms this afternoon, bringing lightning and more chance of surface water flooding.
We reported yesterday how a sudden deluge pushed up two manhole covers in Tybridge Street as the waters rose swiftly around parked cars.
Dave Throup, Environment Agency Manager for Herefordshire and Worcestershire, said this morning: “Quieter start to today but storms expected again this afternoon. Warning issued. Surface water flooding likely.”
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for the region with scattered, slow-moving heavy showers expected causing possible localised flooding in some places.
“Lightning could be an additional hazard” said a Met Office spokesman.
During yesterday's flash floods New Road was affected with the traffic flow down to one lane at one point.
Flood water stood about 18 inches deep in the car park at Tybridge Street yesterday.
