ONLY two and a half years after being founded in 1982, Nunnery Wood Youth Band had become so proficient that the city's mayor in 1984, Cllr Jeff Carpenter, announced that he was according it the title of Worcester's Town Band.
Maybe it should have been "City Band", but Jeff knew his stuff and obviously had a reason.
It was set up by the music teacher of Nunnery Wood High School Tony White with the help of several parents, among them Norman Hawker, who became band secretary.
The idea was to provide a platform for young musicians to continue their musical talents after leaving school and members came from schools and colleges both inside and outside the city.
So well established did the "youth band" become that by the 90s many members were youths no longer and the name was changed to Worcester Concert Brass.
This photo is from the very early days when most were still youths.
