TWO teenage girls remain seriously ill in a coma today after their car smashed into a tree near Worcester.

Sophia Carini-Morgan and Rubey Devlin were in a Mini when it left the road and hit a tree at 8pm on Sunday night.

Miss Carini-Morgan was dragged from the wreckage of the car minutes before it burst into flames.

Both she and Miss Devlin remained in Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, last night where their condition was described as critical but stable.

A third friend, Tyler Smith, is being treated at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

The three friends were travelling towards Suckley Road along Sherridge Road in Leigh Sinton at around 8pm when the Mini they were in went out of control, hitting a tree before ending up in a field.

Two of the girls managed to get out of the car while Miss Carini-Morgan had to be pulled out by a hero passer-by moments before it burst into flames.

Leandra Smith, Tyler’s mother, said: “They all blacked out when they hit the tree. Tyler came round and realised what had happened and tried to wake the other girls.

“She got Rubey awake but couldn’t wake Sophia. She said, ‘We have got to get out’. They crawled out of the car. Tyler then went to the road and flagged a car down.

“They came down and got Sophia out of the car just before it caught alight. Then Tyler blacked out again. She had to have reconstructive surgery.

“Tyler was actually very brave and thank you to the people who helped the girls after the accident.”

The driver of the car, Miss Carini-Morgan, aged 18, who lives locally, suffered serious head injuries in the crash and is currently in an induced coma.

The back seat passenger of the car, Miss Devlin, 19, of Worcester, was treated for abdominal and pelvic injuries and immobilised and given pain relief and is also in a coma.

Miss Smith, 19, of Spetchley, near Worcester, was travelling in the front seat and had injuries to her face and ankle.

Yesterday it was unclear where the girls were heading when the crash happened.

The police are appealing for anyone who saw the blue mini before the incident or witnesses that haven’t come forward to contact them by calling 101 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 quoting incident number 550S 11/11/12 .
