TWO Birmingham men accused of taking part in a raid on a Worcestershire smallholding used as a cannabis factory have admitted trying to enter the premises.

But Robert Richards, aged 29, of Scholars Gate, Kitts Green, and 25-year-old Darren Randall, of Yardley Fields Road, continue to deny aggravated attempted burglary at Stocking Gobbetts, Whitbourne, near Worcester.

Both pleaded guilty when an amended indictment alleging attempting to enter a building with intent to steal was put to them on the seventh day of the trial at Worcester Crown Court.

Their counsel, Tom Walkling and Martin Butterworth, said neither accused intended to give evidence.

Prosecutor Stephen Thomas will give his closing address today and Judge Abbas Mithani will sum up after defence speeches.

The jury has still to return a verdict on the original indictment.

The prosecution has alleged that the property called Stocking Gobbetts was raided on October 5 last year.

The householder, Malcolm White, fired a shotgun and hit Robert Richards in the back of his right leg, which has since been amputated.

He was found bleeding outside a Chinese takeaway in Leigh Sinton and was arrested after hospital treatment.

Both accused made “no comment” interviews.

The trial is likely to end on Monday.
