A WORCESTER band will play for 15,000 people when they support legendary musician Paul Weller.
Naked Remedy, who have already shared a bill with Velvet Revolver, Status Quo and Wishbone Ash, have now secured a gig supporting Weller at the LG Arena in Birmingham.
The show, taking place on Friday, November 26, will be a huge opportunity for the young band, who are being described as “the new generation of garage rock”.
“This is a huge opportunity for us and we are all really excited to be supporting one of the giants of British music,” said 20-year-old lead singer Dave Small.
“It feels like this has come at the right time.”
When asked if this could be the three-piece’s big break, former Chantry high school student Mr Small said: “We’ve all been keen to do this - it’s what we want to do every day of our lives, but whether we’ll be driving Morris Minors or Ferrari, I don’t know.”
The band will be performing before and after Weller’s gig in the LG Arena’s new entertainment zone, ForumLive where concert-goers enjoy food, drink and live music.
They secured the slot through an LG Arena scheme that gives up and coming bands to perform with major bands of the same genre.
Unfazed by the idea of playing in front of up to 15,000 punters, Mr Small said: “We’ll win them over.”
The band, also featuring Tom Callinswood and Nav Sahota, formed in February 2009 and have a solid local following. In 2009 they were crowned winners of Worcester’s Got Talent at Sin Bar. They also performed at the opening gig of Worcester Music Festival and at the fireworks show at Worcester City Football Club’s St George’s Lane ground earlier this month.
