A VEHICLE drove into the side of a house causing a gas leak and traffic chaos in Stourport-on-Severn this morning.
It is believed that a vehicle left the road on the one-way system and hit a garden wall opposite the Hollybush pub in Mitton Street at 7am.
The driver did not stop at the scene or report the incident but a passing motorist contacted the police after noticing a strong smell of gas and glass showered on the roadside.
Police sealed off the road shortly afterwards and National Grid engineers were called out to the scene and spent an hour-and-a-half repairing the damage to the pipe on the outside of the house on the corner of Mitton Street.
Jane Taylor, spokeswoman for National Grid, said: "They damaged the gas pipe in the house which rises from the pavement and goes into the gas meter. It was just an individual service to that one property."
She said that nobody was hurt in the incident. One lane was reopened to traffic at 9.30am.
Witnesses or anyone with information about either incident are urged to contact police on 08457 444888.
