Isuzu FA Vase: Worcester City vs Great Wakering Rovers

The first-leg - moved from Claines Lane to Sixways due to the weather after the original tie was postponed - will be played in front of the biggest 'home' crowd in recent times as up to 3,000 look set to pack out the former home of the Worcester Warriors.

Not since the memorable FA Cup Replay with Scunthorpe United in 2014 has City seen a crowd like the one that will welcome the team onto the pitch on Saturday. By Thursday evening, 2500 tickets had been sold but the hope is that will rise by the time game day arrives.

But these numbers are hardly surprising. City's home attendances at Claines have averaged out at around 800 this season and they have had back-to-back home sell-outs (1400) in the Vase, as well as taking 1200 to Stourport Swifts in the round of 16.

Add to that how well Chris Cornes' men are doing, it's not difficult to see why they are attracting so many for the semi-final first-leg, with the club on the cusp of a famous trip to Wembley in the final.

And you would not want to bet against Worcester. They are on a 22-game winning streak in all competitions and come into the clash with their Southend-based opponents on the back of Wednesday's thumping 7-0 win over Roman Glass St George in the Hellenic Premier.

That takes them to within one win of claiming the title, although they could win it on Saturday if Corsham lose to Longlevens.

They reached the 170-goal mark for the season in that thrashing on Wednesday, which was the previous club record of goals in a single season. Liam Lockett also scored City's 100th goal in the league.

They are on fire and backed by thousands in blue and white, they are a scary proposition.

Opposition watch

As for the visitors, they are on a three-game winning run heading to Worcestershire, scoring three in each of those games. But generally, they have had a mixed season and sit in the lower half of the Essex Senior League Premier Division table, although they have a considerable amount of games in hand which somewhat blurs the picture.

Their away form (all competitions) if pretty good, especially in 2024. They have won six of their last eight on the road this year, which has been a big upturn in results compared to the first-half of the season.

Overall, their away record reads: P 21, W 11, D 5, L 5, whilst scoring 54 goals in the process at an average of 2.5 per game on their travels. Callum Boylan is their main threat with 24 goals this season.
